| Plot |
| Seven Years in Tibet is the story of two Austrian mountaineers, Heinrich Harrer (Brad Pitt) and Peter Aufschnaiter (David Thewlis) who have been imprisoned by the British in northern India at the beginning of World War Two in 1939. Eventually the two escape into Tibet in 1944. At first the two are ordered to return to India but are then welcomed at Lhasa. At Lhasa, Harrer meets the Dalai Lama (Jamyang Jamtsho Wangchuk), who is still a young boy, and becomes his tutor. The two become close friends. The two Austrians are forced to leave Tibet in 1950 as a result of the Chinese invasion. |
