| Plot |
| This movie begins with a tragedy: a beloved wife and mother dies, in what appears to be a suicide. In the wake of his grief, David Calloway (Robert Deniro) decides to move himself and his young daughter, Emily (Dakota Fanning) to a large house, on a sprawling wooded property. Although he is a psychologist, David is completely overwhelmed and under-prepared for the task of comforting his daughter while trying to heal himself. Emily talks about a friend she has named “Charlie”. Since David cannot meet Charlie, he assumes Emily has invented an imaginary friend. When Emily’s behavior gets stranger and stranger and she keeps blaming it on “Charlie”, David asks an old friend and child psychologist named Katherine (Famke Janssen) to come check on her. |
