| Plot |
| This is the last chance for Tom Turner (Greg Kinnear). He has skirted prison on numerous occasions but this time the judge isn’t having it. Tom does not like to work and uses his delightful, talkative personality to con people. But this time the courts think he has gone too far. If he does not get a regular job and hold it, he faces 1 year behind bars. So, in desperation Tom takes a job with the Post Office. During his employment, he is given the task of dealing with the dead letters; those letters addressed to Santa, the Easter Bunny, and God. Seeing an opportunity to again work a scam, Tom decides to answer letters addressed to God. Here, he believes is the ideal source of money from unsuspecting people in desperate need of an answer. Rather than gain money from this new con, Tom finds there is more to gain when his heart changes. |
