| Plot |
| A historical reconstruction of the final days of the Third Reich, "Der Untergang" is based on the memories of Hitler's (Bruno Ganz) secretary, Traudl Junge (Alexandra Maria Lara). Sieged by the Soviet Army, the city of Berlin gradually becomes the stage for the final battle of a war that had long been lost. Inside Hitler's bunker, Eva Braun (Juliane Köhler), Josef Goebbbels (Ulrich Matthes) and the top members of the Nazi Party slowly come to terms with their own demise, as their leader sinks into a delusional state. Outside, what little is left of a once powerful army joins forces with children from the Hitlerian Youth so to make a final, desperate stand. Joachim Fest lent the historical expertise. |
