Plot
‘Dead Man’s Bounty’ is a odd and sometimes shocking story about life in a small village in which the peace and tranquility is shattered by the arrival of a foreigner (Karel Roden) and a wanted man (Val Kilmer). The movie is heavy in symbolism and this is established very early on as none of the characters are given names; everyone is identified by their occupation. The foreigner, known as the stranger, finds several dead men by the river alongside a burned out stagecoach. The stranger heads into town but loses the body of the wanted man, which he is angry about as it is worth a lot of money to him. The stranger has an affair with a local woman, ‘The Woman’ (Katarzayna Figura) which sets the local men against him, particularly the town’s drunken sheriff (Boguslave Linda). An accident causes further problems for the stranger and leads to an anarchic gunfight. The stranger gets shot in the head and has to treat himself by cauterizing his wound with a burning flame.
