| Plot |
| Based on a true story. Lowell Bergman (Al Pacino) works for "60 Minutes." He realizes that Jeff Wigand (Russell Crowe), former tobacco executive, has a story to tell. Wigand wants to talk because the truth weighs on his conscience, but he had signed a confidentiality agreement and is pressured from his company to remain silent. He evenutally agrees to an on-camera interview with Mike Wallace for CBS' "60 Minutes." The interview reveals that the tobacco industry was indeed aware of the addictive and harmful nature of cigarettes and that they were working on making them even more addictive. There is a struggle between the tobacco companies trying to keep Wigand quiet and the network being afraid to broadcast such a story at fear of being sued. |
